BJ Penn opened a 3 inch cut on Diego Sanchez’ forhead with a kick which prompted the physician to stop the fight at the 2 minutes and 37 seconds of the fifth round of the main event of UFC 107: Penn vs. Sanchez at the FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee.

With the TKO win, BJ Penn reatined his lightweight championship belt.

On the co-main event, Frank Mir submitted Cheick Kongo via guillotine choke submission at the 1:12 of the first round, Mir is aiming for a chance for a championship rematch against Brock Lesnar.

• Welterweight bout: TJ Grant defeated Kevin Burns via Technical Knock Out at 4:57 of the first round.
• Welterweight bout: DaMarques Johnson defeated Edgar Garcia via triangle choke submission after 4:03 of the opening round.
• Middleweight bout: Rousimar Palhares won over Lucio Linhares via heel hook submission at 3:21 of the second round.
• Welterweight bout: Johny Hendricks defeated Ricardo Funch via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-25).

• Catchweight bout (195 lbs): Alan Belcher won over Wilson Gouveia via Technical Knock Out after 3:03 of round number 1.

• Heavyweight bout: Paul Buentello defeated Stefan Struve via majority decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-28).
• Lightweight bout: Kenny Florian won over Clay Guida via rear naked choke submission at 2:19 of the second round.
• Welterweight bout: Jon Fitch defeated Mike Pierce via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
• Heavyweight bout: Frank Mir won over Cheick Kongo via guillotine choke submission after 1:12 of the opening round.
• Lightweight Championship bout: B.J. Penn (c) defeated Diego Sanchez via Technical Knock Out at 2:37 of the final round.

The Catchweight bout between Alan Belcher and Wilson Gouveia was named Fight of the Night, TJ Grant’s first round TKO win against Kevin Burns was awarded the Knockout of the Night while DaMarques Johnson triangle choke submission against Edgar Garcia got the Submission of the Night award.

UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva is scheduled on January 2, 2010 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
